MASVINGO – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Masvingo Province on Wednesday awarded 33 outstanding officers and stations at a ceremony held at Phoenix Camp, Rhodene in Masvingo.

Officer Commanding Masvingo Province Commissioner Crispen Charumbira was the guest of honour.

The awards were sponsored by Solten Financial Services and the company was represented by its director Saul Chin’anga.

Members of the Masvingo Business Against Crime Forum of Zimbabwe (BACFOZ) also attended the ceremony.

Winners walked away with monetary prices ranging from US$50 – US$250, certificates and t-shirts.

One notable winner is Sergeant Plannet Chigwada who scooped bronze in the Women Network category.

Sergeant Chigwada made headlines after she stopped a colleague who was on trial at the High Court from escaping after his two year jail term was upheld. Tyron Makayi knocked down a male officer and was stopped in his tracks by Chigwada as he headed for the court’s exit.

The awards were divided into three categories, General Police where 23 officers were awarded, Women Network and Policon District where five officers received awards in each category.

Sergeant Patience Majekwa won gold in the Women Network category for arresting her brother’s ‘killer’.

Masvingo Central Intelligence Crack team won gold in the General Police category for apprehending suspected armed robber Pardon Shoko who died in a shootout at Ngundu. His two accomplices were arrested. Shoko was linked to several armed robbery cases in and around Masvingo City.

The crack team comprises Jeffrey Chipengo, Paul Charli, Nkala Nqabizibizwe, Hendrich Llyod, Blessing Mukitwa, Paul Chuma, Llyod Maroveke, Taurai Moses Chikeya and Edison Muzite.

Police Constabulary Emmanuel Mujeki of Masvingo East district won gold after he arrested a ZESA cables thief and recovered the cables.

Commissioner Charumbira applauded the Masvingo community for assisting the police with resources in executing their duties.

“I thank the Masvingo business community for helping the Police in implementing their duties and your work is not going unnoticed. I am proud to stand alongside you as we continue to serve and protect our communities.

“As the Police we will not fail in providing security for our communities, we are striving to create enabling environmental towards the realization of our theme and the national vision. Today we gather to recognize the exceptional achievements of our outstanding police officers. Again, I believe it is also important to acknowledge the collective efforts of our entire police service working together with the community against crimes,” he said.
