MASVINGO – Masvingo Police has arrested a gang of three suspected armed robbers who terrorised the Midlands Province in particular Mvuma and Mberengwa.

After dumping a Toyota Wish at Croco Motors, Police that was watching the three from a distance saw them walk away to a bus stop 30 metres away and board a Harare—bound bus.

Police moved into the bus and nabbed them. They were found with pistols loaded with live bullets.

Masvingo Police spokesperson Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the arrests to The Mirror.

The suspects are Rhinos Takawira (43) of Matara Village, Headman Musvuugwa, Chivi, Tinashe Marina of Marima Village, Chief Mushaningwa, Murehwa and Praise Gudhlanga of Munyarari Village, Chief Mapurisa, Mutare.

The Mirror is told that detectives received information on six cases of robbery reported in the Midlands with the latest having occurred at Mberengwa where a money safe was stolen from a retail shop.

They gathered that the robbers were driving a Toyota Wish and they spotted the vehicle entering Masvingo CBD and trailed it from a distance.

As they reached old Croco Motors, Takawira who was driving parked the car at an open space opposite Delta Beverages and closed the windows, locked the door and threw the keys on the ground while detectives were watching.

Marima and Gudhlanga had already boarded a Harare bound ZUPCO bus before Police pounced on them.

They were found in possession of two pistols one with four live rounds and another with five live rounds.

They were also found with cash and cellphones and took Police officers to a place they had hidden the safe stolen from Mberengwa.

There is speculation however, that the armed robbers are linked to the gruesome murder of a Bikita taxi driver Darlington Madzokere two weeks ago.
