MASVINGO-City of Masvingo will have a new mayor tomorrow.
City Public Relations Officer Ashleigh Jinjika confirmed the matter to The Mirror.
She said the elections will be held tomorrow at 4: 30 pm at the council.
The elections are being held after the councillors finished their two-day induction workshop which ran from Friday to Saturday at Flamboyant, a Regency Group Hotel.
Masvingo City has 13 councillors and 11 are from the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) with two coming in through the women’s quota. Zanu PF has one elected councillor, Sengerai Manyanga of Ward 10 and one who came through the women’s quota.
Sources, however, told The Mirror that long-serving CCC Ward 5 Councillor Daniel Mberikunashe is likely the new mayor and will be deputised by CCC Ward 2 Councillor Shantel Chiwara.
The previous council was led by Collen Maboke who was the Ward 2 councillor and deputised by Zanu PF’s Ward 6 Councillor Wellington Mahwende.
Both men contested to be Masvingo Urban legislators and lost to Martin Mureri.
Other councillors who did not retain their seats are Rocky Kamuzonda (then Ward 3), Alderman Serina Maridza (Ward 1), and Against Chiteme (Ward 9).
