Masvingo man loses US$10 000 to armed robbers

MASVINGO- Police in Masvingo have launched a manhunt for five armed robbers who broke into a Clipsham house on Saturday evening and got away with over US$10 000.

Masvingo Police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said the robbers got away with US$10 400, RTGS$300 and four cellphones; no injuries were recorded because victims complied with the robbers.

Dhewa said the robbers broke a window at the house and gained entry into a room where Bryan Matake (30) was sleeping and robbed him of US$10 000 and two cellphones.

The robbers armed with a pistol and machete proceeded to a room where Namatirai Matake (50) was sleeping and robbed her of US$400, RTGS$300 and two cellphones before escaping.

“We urge members of the public to keep huge sums of money in a bank. No injuries were recorded because Bryan and Namatirai gave in to the armed robbers demands. The incident occurred around midnight on Saturday,” said Dhewa.
