Masvingo man gets 1 year for 1 gram of crystal meth

MASVINGO-Magistrate Conceptor Ngwerume on Monday sentenced Abiot Thleki (37) to a year in jail after he was arrested in possession of a gram of crystal meth.
Magistrate Ngwerume suspended four months of the sentence and Thleki will effectively serve eight months in jail.
Prosecutor Precious Takuva told the court that Thleki was arrested by a team of detectives which was monitoring a suspected drug peddler, Mary Chisi’s house on Thursday last week. He was seen entering the house and leaving a few minutes later.
The detectives followed him, introduced themselves and conducted a body search. They seized two sachets of crystal meth which weighed 1.0480 grams.
The arrest happened around 9 am near Chisi’s house at 2548/9 Mushandike Street in Majange. Chisi was later on arrested the same day and Police recovered 19 grams of the drug.
In another drug case, Magistrate Ngwerume sentenced mbanje peddler Benson Chatikobo of R2323, Zimuto Street, Mucheke A to a year in jail for possession of the Mbanje weighing 120 grams.
Three months were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offense in the next five years.
It was the State case that on March 10, 2023, Police received information Chatikobo was packing twists of dagga at his house with the intention of selling them.
The detectives proceeded to his place, knocked and were instructed to enter. Upon entering, they discovered that Chatikobo had a cob of dagga and asked him to produce a license permitting him to deal with the drug.
Chatikobo failed to produce the license and was subsequently arrested.
