MASVINGO – Masvingo Province finally has a rugby board after spending 34 years without one.
The Victor Burukai chaired board was elected on April 27, this year and will be in office over the next four years.
Masvingo has not had a rugby board affiliated with the Zimbabwe Rugby Union (ZRU) since 1990.
Burukai told The Mirror that the board has a mammoth task of reviving the sport and dilapidated infrastructure particularly in school to promote rugby.
“Masvingo did not have an active rugby board affiliated with the Zimbabwe Rugby Union for the past 34 years. As the new board we want to revive all rugby facilities in the province. We will soon develop rugby teams from district level and we want to partner with both primary and secondary schools in nurturing talent.
“Considering that we have not been active for the past years many of our facilities in the province are now dilapidated. We are working with schools like Ndarama High, Victoria High and Kyle College among others in developing youngsters. We are doing trainings and we want to partner with the private sector to help us in reviving active rugby in the province,” he said.
Burukai is deputised by Tinashe Kandiero. Collins Zhou is the secretary general while Waymen Takawira is the treasurer, Craig Greff represents the Zimbabwe Rugby Referee Society (ZRRS), Wilson Chatiboko is the technical director, Charity Mutimodhio is the director for women rugby, Getrude Nyoni is the National Association of Primary Heads (NAPH) representative and Eddison Muresherwa is the National Association for Secondary School Heads (NASH) representative.
