Masvingo City Academy ready to rumble at Mai Hondo Trophy

Masvingo City Junior soccer academy has vowed to put up a sterling performance at the eighth edition of the Mai Hondo under 15 Trophy in Mutare this weekend saying it was going all systems out to contest with bigger academies and not to add numbers in their second appearance at the annual tournament.

Buoyed by the recent clinching of the D1 U15 Trophy were it upstaged other local junior academies, Masvingo City Academy, says preparations for the tournament were splendid and are now waiting to travel to the eastern highlands border city of Mutare.

The Academy that believes and invest its energies in “Fair Play” says it has selected genuine under 15s, although last year it played against older rivals from other cities and was acknowledged by the organizers of the tournament for fair play and commitment against age cheating.

The academy is made up of a very powerful and strong technical department of high profile former Premier and Division 1 soccer players.

Former Dynamos and Masvingo United Captain, George Magariro is the head coach while Billiat Bomber Muchenje formed Una Una and Kiglon FC midfielder deputizes him with former Masvingo United goal keeper, Richard Mazhambe. Former Masvingo Pirates goalie, Forward Pfumojena is the goal keepers’ Coach while former Una Una diminutive link man, Josiah Mandoza Mandeya is the Team Manager.

Mgariro said there are raring to go.

“This is our second chance to prove our mettle and we are simply going there to do that, we are not going there to add numbers or as underdogs but to give a good account of ourselves as a team, “Magariro said.

He added that they learnt some lessons last year in their debut appearance and will simply correct and put up a fight against well-established academies some from Harare and Mutare.
