MASVINGO – Investigations relating to the assault and murder of MDC A activist Nyasha Zhambe are not being carried out by Gutu but by the Masvingo CID Law and Order, a senior Police officer has said.

Gutu Officer-in Charge Cames Myambo told Zhambe’s family lawyers Matutu and Mureri Legal Practitioners that investigations into the case RRB4596219 were taken over by Masvingo immediately after the report was made on October 14, 2021.

He says that CID Masvingo took over the case on October 16, 2021. The Mirror is in possession of the letter.

Inspector Myambo was responding to an ultimatum given to him by the family to release a report on the progress of the investigations or face legal action.

The family raised the issue after it emerged that there has not been any arrests in the murder case although the deceased identified the assailants before he was admitted in hospital.

Matutu and Mureri delivered a letter with the seven-day ultimatum to Inspector Myambo on Tuesday and Myambo personally handed his response to Mureri at Masvingo Magistrates Court yesterday.

Mureri confirmed receipt of the letter and told The Mirror that he was now writing to Masvingo CID Law and Order officer in charge Nyoni demanding the same.

Masvingo Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said that he was not aware of the developments.

Zhambe who comes from Matungamidze Village under Chief Mawere in Gutu was attacked at an illegal roadblock manned by Zanu PF supporters at Mpandawana on October 14, 2021. He suffered injuries and was hospitalized since then until he died last week.

“Be informed that this matter was referred to Law and Order Division Masvingo on October 16, 2021 for further investigation,” reads part of the response. https://masvingomirror.com
