MASVINGO – The special- ised Anti-Corruption Court in Masvingo received four cases throughout 2021 despite all the hullabaloo in
the country about the vice. This is according to a report made by Constitutional Court Judge Justice Pad- dington Garwe which is in the hands of The Mirror. The only high profile case the court received is against the Minister of State for Masvingo Ezra Chadzamira which only went before the court once in September and it is still outstanding, The Mirror gathered.
The Zimbabwe Anti-Corrup- tion Commission which is responsible for investigat- ing anti-corruption cases received $3,6 billion from the fiscus in 2021.
Justice Garwe read the report during the official opening of the 2022 calen- dar year at the High Court in Masvingo on Monday attended by The Mirror. Regional Magistrate Pa- tience Madondo presides over the Anti—Corruption Court.The court had one case brought forward from 2020 legal year making the total number of cases before the court five. Of the five cases, the Anti-Corruption Court completed just two and three cases are still out- standing.
Government has been dead silent about the Chadzamira case and all information in- volving the alleged abuse of office case has been tightly kept away from the public and the media.
The other corruption cases that went before the special court involve council offi- cials who allegedly swindled each other under a housing scheme, there are officials of a high school who are accused of abusing school funds.
