MASVINGO- Regional Magistrate Bishard Chineka has sentenced a Mashava man to 10 years in jail for stabbing a patron who got into an altercation with his friend at a bar last year.
Denver Shoko stabbed Birbert Magaisa in the abdomen once on December 23, 2022, around 10:30 pm at Chadzamira Bar during an argument with his friend, identified as Lizard or Bugwa.
Magistrate Chineka suspended one year on condition that Shoko does not commit a similar crime in five years.
The court heard that Shoko and Bugwa were drinking beer at the bar when an altercation ensued between Lizard and Magaisa over an undisclosed issue.
Lizard then slapped Magaisa during the argument, and Shoko jumped in and stabbed Magaisa once with a knife before the two fled the bar.
Magaisa was rushed to a nearby clinic by other patrons before a Police report was made.
Shoko denied the charge and told the court that he was at his brother’s residence during family rituals. He said the rituals began on December 19 and ended on December 24, 2022, and he did not leave his brother’s place during that time.
