BEATRICE – The Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing July Moyo has approved Manyame Rural District Council (RDC)’s $1.3 billion budget for the year 2022, it has been confirmed.
Senior finance officer Eugine Maramba confirmed the approval to The Mirror. The budget rises from $658 million last year.
“The total approved budget for this year is $1 361 684 266. Last year our annual budget was pegged at $658 343 254.56 translating an increment of 107 percent,” she said.
Councillor Ian Manyere, the Finance Committee Chairperson applauded the Government for the timely approval of the budget. He said that this would allow the local authority to meet project deadlines.
“We want to thank the Ministry for this year’s timely budget approval which will help us in accomplishing our annual projects,” he said.
Manyere said the local authority last year was operating on a budget whose performance rate was very low as residents and companies defaulted on payments.
“In order to recover debts we are now employing various strategies including engaging debt collectors and encouraging ratepayers to come up with payment plans,” he said.https://masvingomirror.com
