MUTARE-Manicaland will host a two day Sports and Exercise Medicine course this weekend at Sakubva Primary School in Mutare. The course is meant for sports practitioners – coaches, medics and team managers. It will be conducted by Dronisport- one of Zimbabwe’s largest provider of sport recreation and sport tourism services.
Dronisport Executive Director Daniel Kuwengwa said sport has revolved scientifically hence the need to keep abreast with the changing trends. He also added that many talented athletes are forced out of sport due to mismanagement of their injuries.
“Sport has revolved scientifically and we need to do things right to safeguard the talent that we are identifying and nurturing. Many a time we have lost good promising athletes due to the way we manage and rehabilitate their injuries. The Course will cover that part. It will also cover Sports Psychology,” said Kuwengwa.
Kuwengwa said the course will also cover Drug and Substance Abuse. He also pointed out that the province has a lot of talent but there are no right skilled staff to nurture the talent.
“Manicaland has a lot of untapped talent in sport and we need the right skilled staff to strategically tap into gold field. Sports medicine is one area in trying to build a structural system that will oil the sports industry in the province. We are also going to cover Drug and Substance Abuse ( Ant -doping) as this area has of late alarmingly hit our nation. We are going to lose a lot of potential athletes if we remain where we are,” he said.
The presenters of the course will be Angelica Garira from the medical fraternity and Kuwengwa.
