Man lures women for jobs, steals from them

ZVISHAVANE – A 24-year-old man from Musariri Village under Chief Nyakunhuwa, Zaka has been slapped with a two-year jail term after stealing cellphones from six different women that he had promised jobs

Clever Chikono pleaded guilty to fraud charges when he appeared before Zvishavane Magistrate Evia Matura who sentenced him to 36 months’ imprisonment. Six months of the sentence were suspended for five years and another six months on condition he restitutes his victims.

It is the State case that on April 25, 2022 at around 9am, Chikono approached one of the complainants Martha Moyo at her house in Makwasha.

He told the complainant that he was looking for ladies to employ at his shop in Zvishavane. Accused and complainant proceeded to Zvishavane Police Station for fingerprints.

Chikono ordered the complainant to type her personal details and after that she handed over her Huawei Smart phone. Chikono told the complainant to wait for him at the station at a small gate but the accused never came back.

On May, 22 2022, Chikono using the same modus operandi met Philippa Vhorondiya at Zvishavane Police Station canteen. He took her number and promised her a job. He asked for the complainant’s cellphone purporting to connect it on internet.  He then escaped through the small gate at the Police Station.

He repeated the same on Anna Mudzuri when he met her at Mike Auto complex and disappeared with her phone.

The other victims were Britta Matara, Runatso Nyoni and Blessing Dube.
