Man in court for raping, killing victim

ZVISHAVANE – A man from Mudereri Village under Chief Masunda has appeared in court facing charges of raping a woman that he left a pub with and then killing her to conceal the crime.

Daniel Simango (47) appeared before Zvishavane Resident Magistrate Archie Wochiunga on Monday last week and was remanded in custody to September 23, 2020.

The State represented by Taurai Muzvimwe said on April 7, 2019 at 1am, Simango and the deceased Stella Moyo left a night club in Mandava heading for the deceased’s place of residence. At a bridge between Mandava and Highlands, the accused dragged the deceased off the road and removed her shoes and pant before raping her.

After raping her, the accused person then strangled the woman thereby causing her death. He then allegedly threw the body in a sewer to conceal the offence.

Police retrieved the body at 2pm. The accused was identified by patrons who were in the bar leading to his arrest.
