Man found in possession of 50kg of Cyanide

Chikomba—A man from Dangarendove Village 7, Featherstone has been fined $50 000 or two months in jail after being found in possession of 50kg of Cyanide.
It is suspected that the cyanide caused the deaths of two cattle at the mining site.
Tedious Mubayi (48) who is a Cotswold Mine manager was convicted by Chivhu Magistrate Sam Chitumwa. The law categorises cyanide as a hazardous substance.
It is the State case that on June 1, 2022, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Chivhu received information that three cattle died at Cotswold Mine from suspected cyanide poisoning.

The detectives proceeded to the scene and observed a dead cow in a state of decomposition.
During the investigation, detectives proceeded to the accused’s residence and saw used containers of caustic soda flakes. This prompted them to search a cabin leading to the recovery of 50kg of sodium cyanide and a 25 kg bag of caustic soda which are hazardous substances. The accused’s wife implicated her husband.
The accused could not produce a permit that allowed him to keep the hazardous substances leading to his arrest.
