MBERENGWA – A Mberengwa man who thought his wife might die after he severely assaulted her for failing to attend church committed suicide to escape the consequences.
Godknows Dube (40) of Mhlauri Village under Chief Mposi, Mberengwa hung himself in his bedroom, leading to his death.
Emmanuel Mahoko, the Midlands Police Spokesperson confirmed the incident and encouraged members of the public to solve matters amicably.
Dube arrived home at around 8: 30pm last Tuesday and had a misunderstanding with his wife concerning her failure to attend a church service. He then attacked hit her with an unknown object on the head.
She cried out for help and he panicked upon realizing that he had injured his wife. He threatened neighbors who rushed to the scene with a machete.
The neighbours retreated only to come back in larger numbers but when it is when they tried to intervene that they realized that Dube had hung himself.
