GWANDA – Mthabisi Ncube (19) of Phaphamani Village in Filabusi died on Thursday last week after he slipped and drowned into Collen Bawn Dam 2 where he washing his clothes.

Matabeleland South Police Spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena confirmed the incident.

Ncube was washing clothes at the dam with his cousin Thabiso Ncube.

“Mthabisi then sent Thabiso to a nearby shop to buy some drinks. Upon returning Thabiso could not locate Mthabisi. He however, observed marks which indicated that Ncube could have slipped into the dam,” she said.

Police Sub Aqua Unit from Fairbridge in Bulawayo retrieved the body the following day.

It is suspected Mthabisi met his fate when he tried to retrieve a washing brush that had fallen into the dam.

Last year another teenager drowned in an adjacent dam, residents in Collen Bawn resort to using dam water due to erratic water supplies.
