MASVINGO –Chaos and maladministration are seemingly reigning high in resuscitated Masvingo cricket outfit Southern Rocks with the club still selecting players whilst the national league commencing on Tuesday.

The chaos is also worsened by the fact that 10 of the 18 players shortlisted for the club are Harare based with only five local players. The Logan Franchise Cup with six teams was set to commence on December 3 but has been postponed to December 8, 2020 due to Covid-19.

Masvingo Cricket Association Manager Blessing Mahwire told The Mirror that player selection processes have been marred by conflicts thereby delaying the process. Mahwire could not immediately furnish The Mirror with the selection criteria.

“We are yet to agree on the list, considering the disgruntlements in the criteria expected in team selection. The team will however, be ready to participate in the league which commences next week,” said Mahwire.

Impeccable sources told The Mirror that Southern Rocks is the only team which has not completed player registration. The other teams in the league are Mountaineers, Mashonaland Eagles, Rangers, Matabeleland Tuskers and Mid-West Rhinos.

Southern Rocks last played in the elite domestic competitions in the 2013-2014 season and the club replaces the Alistair Campbell High Performance Centre team which failed to have a new academy intake this year due to Covid-19.
The club bounced back into top flight cricket on November 19, 2020.

The Logan Franchised Cup has adopted the bubble concept in an effort to ensure the safety of players and officials from the deadly Covid-19. https://masvingomirror.com
