GWERU – Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Gweru Urban legislator, Josiah Makombe has unveiled a scholarship programme for brilliant pupils, and People with Disabilities (PWDs) who are from disadvantaged families.
Makombe’s programmes coordinator, Moses Mikaele told The Mirror that the programme is a reaction to a survey conducted in the constituency that showed that most pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds are dropping out of school.
He added that they are now identifying the first batch of the programme beneficiaries and urged those who know disadvantaged pupils to approach the mayor’s office at Gweru Theater or any councillor for assistance.
“The survey was conducted by the Gweru Urban Constituency Development Committee. The scholarship programme is an initiative launched by the Gweru Urban Member of Parliament Dr Josiah Makombe. He started this programme after noticing that many children especially those from poor backgrounds were dropping out of school as a result of financial challenges,” he said.
He added that the scholarship will cater for the pupils until they finish their Advanced Level studies.
“Our target area is the less privileged, People with Disabilities (PWDs), and orphans. The scholarship programme will pay fees for primary and secondary leaners up to Advanced Level,” he said.
