SHURUGWI – Former Shurugwi Town Council chairperson Bulle Madzitire has been elected to be chairperson of the newly registered Shurugwi Residents and Ratepayers Association.
Madzitire confirmed his election to The Mirror. He said the elections were held at a local lodge recently.
He also said that the association was registered on May 28, 2024.
Madzitire will be deputised by Libson Mugodi. Tembo Boisen (secretary), Challenge Sithole (vice secretary), Tinos Madovi (treasurer). Pardon Machocho is the association’s Executive Director.
“We will officially launch the association on September 4 this year since we are now a registered organisation. The association has been active since 2022. The group is to ensure that authorities and service providers up their game and value their clients. It ensures inclusivity in issues affecting service delivery and development.
“The group will also engage corporates to ensure that they participate and initiate development projects to support communities and other departments such as health and educational infrastructure development and sport,” he said.
He added that the association’s members paid US$1 each for the registration process.
Machocho said the association’s vision is to monitor, evaluate and advocate for efficient service delivery for all residents and ratepayers staying in Shurugwi and its environment.
“The vision of the association is to monitor, evaluate and advocate efficient water and power supply, refuse collection, road construction and maintenance and other related services.
“We will also serve as a watchdog against corruption and embezzlement and or diversion of service delivery funds,” said Machocho.
