CHIVHU-Chivhu Provincial Magistrate court, Sam Chitumwa, on December 28, 2022 slapped a prominent Chivhu Johanne Masowe leader, George Madamombe (47) with a three-year-jail term for raping and impregnating a 14 year old girl. He however, suspended one year on condition of good behavior. Madamombe will serve an effective two years.
Prosecutor Tawonga Masaire told the court that the minor left home to attend a church service on a Thursday and her mother joined her on Friday, but when the church was over Madamombe insisted that the minor should remain behind because he wanted to have some special prayers with the minor until Saturday.
Madamombe later called the mother on Sunday morning inviting her to the church and she only arrived late at the church when the service was over intending to take her child so that she could prepare for school on Monday. She refused to release the girl and told her that she was disturbing her daughter’s church lessons.
That was the last she saw of her daughter and has been making frantic efforts to get her back, but was only reunited with her daughter after she had already given birth to a three-week-old baby.
She then made a police report at Masasa Police Station in Chivhu sometime in March last year but Madamombe was only brought to court last month.
