Mutare – Mutare gospel musician Dorcas Moyo launched her latest album Mhanza Haisekwi on Saturday and two things are distinct; Sungura ace Alick Macheso features on one of the songs and the first disc was bought for US$2 000.
The album titled Mhanza Haisekwi was launched amid pomp and fanfare at Chancellor Primary School with prominent artists from as far as Harare participating. During the launch, South African based energy and petroleum business mogul, Ganizani Ganizani bought the 11 track album for US$2 000.
Ganizani applauded established artists for their support for upcoming artists. He said he bought the CD at such a high price in order to uplift musicians and to show his appreciation for the support bigger musicians are giving to upcoming musicians.
Some of the tracks on the album are Tinoungudza, Mhanza Haisekwi, Zvese zvinobatirana, Nyika inodedera, Handiburuke, Nyama munyengeri, Zvinoda Jesu, Zivai nguva, Ndipeiwo mukana, Moyo mutsva and bonus track Tisapedzane. The title track Mhanza Haisekwi however promises to bit them all with its distinct fusion of Sungura maestro Aleck Macheso’ s bass guitar. The track Tinoungudza is about young children abstaining from drug and substance abuse.The other tracks to look out for are Zvinoda Jesu, Tisapedzane the bonus track and Nyika inodedera.
Macheso participated on the title track while Vabati VaJehova corroborated on Zvinoda Jesu. Moyo’s manager, Peter Madondo said they invited Macheso on the track because they wanted a bit of sungura there and he described it as a great honour that Macheso agreed to support. Macheso sound on the track gives a Sungura music flare that ignites gospel fans to easily identify the Dorcas Moyo brand fused with Macheso as the king of Sungura.
Vabati VaJehovha front man Richard Magaya whose apostolic group hogged the limelight with their hit song ‘Munoita Minana’ travelled with his band from Harare to perform at the event.
“We are here to support to Moyo’s album launch,” Magaya explained.
“I feel honored to grace this occasion and the launch has brought together big and small artists. This is something that is rare for established artists in Zimbabwe to uplift upcoming artists.
“As G-Tech we are still small a small company trying to establish ourselves in Mutare, however, we found it appropriate for us to support Moyo,” said Ganizani.
“Nobody doesn’t know Macheso and no one can turn down an offer to work with the master. We asked him to teach us how things are done in the music industry,” said Madondo.
