Former Minister of State for Midlands, Jaison Machaya
Gweru – Former Minister of State for Midlands, Jaison Machaya has been sentenced to 48 months in prison for his involvement in illegal sales of State land in Gokwe.
He will serve an effective 30 months after Magistrate Charity Maphosa suspended 18 months of the sentence on condition of good behaviour.
He was charged for abuse of office by directing the sale of residential stands as Minister of State, a role which does not fall under his Ministry.
Maphosa said that Machaya did not have any lawful right to exercise land allocation to land developers as it is the duty of the Minister of Local Government and Public Works and the actions by the accused were inconsistent with his duties.
The manner in which the State land was given to Stration investment was not according to proper procedures as there was no tender flighted. https://masvingomirror.com
