MASVINGO-A Morningside tenant is admitted in the intensive care unit at Masvingo Provincial Hospital with third degree burns after her landlady scalded her with boiling water for alleged gossip.
Netsai Witness (46) is remanded in prison on charges of attempted murder for ghastly wounds she inflicted on Cheneso Manyawi (35).
Witness of 50 Petalite Street, Morningside did not deny the charge when she appeared before Masvingo Magistrate, Mbonisi Ndlovu yesterday.
Prosecutor Godknows Mugondo said the court is waiting for medical reports for the trial to begin.

The incident happened on April 28, 2022 at 6pm and Manyawi suffered burns on her thighs and torso. She lost all skin on the area.
Manyawi’s husband Farai Dhamburosi told The Mirror that his wife’s medical bills are ballooning daily and he is struggling to meet them. Dhamburosi and Manyawi have two children one in Form 3 and another doing Grade 3.
Sources told The Mirror that Witness was angry with Manyawi because she suspected that she was the one who told another tenant, Egnas Gavi (34) that the landlady whipped her child during her absence.

Gavi met the landlady and did not greet her raising the latter’s suspicion that someone had gossiped.
Witness called Manyawi to a fireplace outside the house when Gavi did not greet her and demanded to know if she had told Gavi anything.
Manyawi told Witness to ask Gavi and not her. This angered Witness who pinned Manyawi to the ground and scalded her with 5 litres of boiling water that was on the fireplace.

Manyawi screamed for help and her brother Recannes Manyawi ran outside and pushed Witness away.
Manyawi’s husband, Farai Dhamburosi told The Mirror in an interview that the medical bills were choking him as he has so far paid more than US$1 000 and there is still more to be paid.
“My wife is still admitted in the intensive care ward and the bills are ballooning daily,” said Dhamburosi.
