CHIREDZI – The Lions Club has donated a prosthetic leg to Tariro Shoko, ward 7 Chiredzi Junior councillor who was born with osteogenesis impefecta.
Osteogenesis impefecta is an inherited bone disorder that is present at birth. The 16 year old Shoko who is doing Form 4 at Chiredzi Government High School has been living with the condition since birth.
The condition has been causing problems like back pain and internal pain due to the lack of an artificial leg.
The prosthetic leg will prevent her from suffering from back pain which she normally suffered due to walking while bending while improving her speed and endurance.
Speaking during the function at a local lodge, Health Promotion Clinic Trust medical rehabilitation practitioner, Bigboy Madzivanzira who is also a member of Lions Club (Harare City) said his organization identified Shoko and decided to assist her.
“Lions Club Chiredzi funded all the expenses and facilitation and I repaired her prosthetic limb. She had a limb which she had acquired in 2023 from a different organisation and it broke when she fell last year so I had to repair the limb,” said Madzivanzira.
Chiredzi Government High School head, Victor Zvada commented the Lions Club and said Shoko is a bright girl however her studies were being affected by her condition but now that she has an artificial limb, she can perform better.
