Liebenberg wins silver at Crystal Chess League

CHIKOMBA – Liebenberg High School won a silver medal at the National Crystal Candy Chess League tournament held at Northlea High School in Bulawayo over the weekend.
The Chivhu based school won five of its seven games and came after Dominican Convent, Harare which won six fixtures. Maryward came third with five wins.
Masvingo’s Ndarama High finished on number 11 on the 20 team league with three wins.
Liebenberg received certificates, medals, hampers and a trophy for coming second.
Twenty secondary and twenty primary schools competed.
Gwehava came first in the primary schools category with seven wins followed by Runyararo Primary with five wins. Haig Park came out third with four wins. Francis Aphiri from Masvingo came last without winning a single game.
Liebenberg head Tinashe Sangu congratulated all students that participated in the tournament and managed to bring a trophy to the school.
“I would like to congratulate all Liebenberg students who participated in the National Crystal tournament. They made us proud. It is through hard work, dedication and good leadership.
“I am also happy that our students managed to bring a trophy and medals which has become a motivational factor to the generality of the learners. The school will forever continue to support the team,” said Sangu.
The Liebenberg team comprised of Grace Zvarebwa, Ruramai Tapambwa, Ngonidzashe Jaya, Takudzwa Hwami, Steven Chibindi, Shadrek Mupundu, Fortune Madzikanda, Promise Mucheche and Natalie Chaibva.
