CHIREDZI – The lease agreement for Chigarapasi, the biggest beerhall in the country signed between Chiredzi Town Council (CTC) and a company called Big Five is missing.
This is making it difficult for the local authority to evict Big Five which the City fathers accuse of neglecting the beerhall that is now in some state of dilapidation.
It is not clear how this happened but Chiredzi Town Secretary Wesley Kauma says his predecessor, the late Charles Muchatukwa did not leave or handover the lease agreement. He told a full council meeting on Tuesday last week that there is no documentation on the agreement and the only copy could be with Big 5.
Council chairperson Jameson Charumbira proposed a motion to give Big 5 three months’ notice ultimatum to vacate the place.
“We should immediately give him three months’ notice to vacate the place,” said Charumbira.
Kauma however, advised council to take caution because the local authority did not have documents. The Mirror understands that the lease agreement expires in September and any immediate three months’ notice will violate the agreement.
The majority of councillors expressed their desire to evict Big 5 with immediate effect.
There has been widespread protest from residents and council members alike, demanding that Big Five’s lease be revoked at Chigarapasi due to their failure to renovate the beer.
