MASVINGO – A landlord from Mucheke in Masvingo aged 29 has appeared in court charged with attempted rape after he allegedly entered a Great Zimbabwe University female student’s room naked. The student is a tenant at the house.

Kudakwashe Zana appeared before Masvingo Magistrate Farai Gwitima on Monday. 

It is the State case that Zana went on top of the student who was asleep in the room and attempted to rape her.

Tarisai Muvengi prosecuted and Zana is represented by Calisto Mutema of Ruvengo and Maboke Legal Practitioners. 

The State said that on April 2, 2022, Zana unlawfully entered into the complainant’s bedroom with his shorts dropped to knee level. The complainant was disturbed from her sleep when the accused went on top of her. She switched on the light and saw Zana lying on her bed naked. The complainant’s bedroom key handle was out of order.

The complainant asked the accused to leave her bedroom but Zana allegedly grabbed her buttocks. Zana later went back to his room and the complainant phoned her friend.

The complainant approached Zana’s mother in the morning but Zana harassed the complainant. The complainant reported the matter to the Police and the accused was arrested.

The matter was remanded to April 26, 2022 for judgement.
