Lake October partners Zim Cancer Association
MASVINGO – Organisers of the Ancient City’s prime entertainment and charity event, the Lake October Festival are partnering with the Cancer Association of Zimbabwe for next week’s carnival.
Carnival head of public relations Tavita Natasha Mpala confirmed the arrangement to The Mirror. She said they are fusing entertainment with cancer education.
Breast Cancer Awareness is commemorated throughout October every year.
Tavita said the partnership aims at raising and donating funds to cancer patients in Masvingo.
This year’s carnival is running under the theme: A Destination Marketing and Promotion Festival with a Purpose-Tourism for Cancer Awareness.
“This year we have partnered with the Cancer Association of Zimbabwe making us a unique festival with a purpose. The month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The inspiration behind this year’s theme is driven by the greater need to raise awareness about breast cancer. We took a deliberate stand to be a festival with a cause infusing the element of edutainment.
“The thrust of this partnership is to raise funds and donations for cancer patients in Masvingo. In line with this year’s theme, the opening night of the music festival dubbed ‘Pink Friday Music Concert’ will be headlined by the country’s top female artists Selmor Mtukudzi, Feli Nandi and DJ Liz from Bulawayo. Winky D and Enzo Ishall are guest artists,” she said.
This year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month is running under the theme of empowering a sisterhood and healing by fostering hope and encouraging to cope and survive to thrive.
Over 8,000 revellers attended last year’s festival which was headlined by Winky D, Jah Prayzah, Freeman, Feli Nandi, Voltz JT and Takura.
