Masvingo –Masvingo United’s dream of competing in next year’s Premier Soccer League (PSL), the country’s top flight league is being seriously affected by sponsorship woes which have seen the club failing to pay player bonuses, poor training equipment, poor administration resulting in the club arriving late for their away fixtures.

Una Una had a fine run in the first eight opening matches of the ZIFA Eastern Region Division 1 league with five wins, a draw and two defeats. The club sits fourth on the log and is just two points behind log leaders Greenfuel FC.

The club has only tested defeat at the hands of Chiredzi Stars and Buffaloes FC. Una Una executive members who spoke to The Mirror believe the defeats were caused by low morale because sometimes the hired combis brake down several times along the way to the games.

Chiredzi Stars FC and Buffaloes FC are fifth and sixth on the log with 15 and 14 points from their eight opening fixtures respectively.

Masvingo United has not lost a home game this season and dispatched eighth placed Pro Melfort FC 1-0 on Saturday at Windsor Stadium, Ruwa.

Una Una committee member and former Caps United player George Charumbira told The Mirror in an interview that the club is struggling financially and this is causing low morale among the players.

“We have had a good start to the season and our players are motivated. It is our hope that we will make it into the PSL next season after several spirited attempts. We have only tested defeats twice and we attribute this to arriving late for games after our hired combis broke down.

“Our players did not get enough time to warm up and familiarize themselves with the pitch and this obviously impacted their performance. We are appealing to the business community to chip in and assist us in any way that they can because this is a community team,” said Charumbira.

The club relies on handouts from supporters with companies like Byword motors chipping in with jerseys and training equipment.

Una Una coach Fastino Mugeji said the solid performance is a resolve between the club’s management, players and supporters to win big despite the financial woes.https://masvingomirror.com
