Kwekwe Poly opens Gokwe campus

GOKWE – Kwekwe Polytechnic is one of the first few higher learning institutes in Zimbabwe to open a campus in a rural town.

The institute is starting classes at Gokwe Center next month and it will be using classes provided for by Gokwe Vocational Training Center.

Kwekwe Polytechnic deputy principal Chamusungarevi Gora confirmed the development in an interview with The Mirror and said the move is meant to expand the college’s catchment area and effectively serve the Gokwe community.

The college will be offering selected subjects in the first phase which are Commerce, Engineering, Applied Science and Adult and Continuing Education.

Meanwhile Kwekwe Poly has already secured land for construction of its Gokwe campus.

“Enrollment of students for our newly opened Gokwe campus has started and we are expecting to commence lectures towards end of April and courses will be introduced in phases,” he said.

“We are currently operating at the Gokwe Vocational Training Centre where there are few classrooms and this has prompted us not to introduce all our courses at one time.

“We have been offered land by the local authority and we expect construction of buildings to start soon,” he said.

“As Kwekwe Poly, we hope to provide a sound education platform for Gokwe residents in line with Government’s thrust of the 5.0 philosophy that seeks to satisfy a component of community development,” he said.

Gokwe Town Council Acting Town Secretary Alexander Nyandoro said they are happy that the Gokwe community has a tertiary institution which will contribute towards the transformation of education and economic development.

“We are happy that tertiary institutions are coming aboard to partner with us in development.

“As a local authority our major role is to create and maintain an enabling environment for development of sustainable businesses and the promotion of education,” he said.https://masvingomirror.com/
