Kwekwe Mukuru loses US$23k to armed robbers

KWEKWE – A gang of six armed robbers pounced on a Mukuru outlet inside Metro Peach Wholesale in Kwekwe industrial area on Thursday around and went away with US$23 000 and ZAR 24 320.
Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the matter to The Mirror.
He said the gang broke into the shop, blasted the safe with explosives and stole US$23 010-00, ZWG21 840-00 and ZAR24 320-00 before fleeing.
“Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms receipt of a report of an armed robbery which occurred at Metro Peach Wholesale, Kwekwe. The incident occurred on 25 July 2024 at about 0000 hours,” said Mahoko.
Circumstances are that two security guards were on night duty when the gang pounced on them armed with guns.
The gang allegedly forced their way into the shop, damaged the lights and alarm systems. They went on to tie the two guards with ropes and left them in the guardroom.
The gang then went on to blast the safe with explosives and stole the money.
Mahoko said they are appealing for information that can lead to the identification of members of the gang.
“We invite those with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects to approach any Police station,” he said.
