Kombayi elected Gweru Mayor

GWERU – Councillor Hamutendi Kombayi who was fired in 2017 for alleged criminal abuse of office has bounced back as Gweru City mayor.
Kombayi gunned 11 votes against Councillor Martin Chivhoko’s 4 during elections held at Town House this morning.


Kombayi who was fired by the then Minister of Local Government Savior Kasukuwere replaces Josiah Makombe who was recalled by the Douglas Mwonzora led MDC-T.
One vote was spoiled during the elections.


Gweru District Development Coordinator (DDC) Ndeya Nyede and Acting Town Clerk Vakai Chikwekwe presided over the election.
