MASVINGO – The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) is working round the clock to attend to problems of connectivity faced by lawyers and judges at the High Court following the introduction of Integrated Electronic Case Management System (IECMS).
JSC spokesperson Daniel Nemukuyu however, said it was not true that High Courts have failed to acquit a single case since the introduction of IECMS at the beginning of this month.
He said that for example in Masvingo there were three bail applications that were granted and two were withdrawn. This is contrary to reports that no bail application was acquitted in Masvingo since September 1, 2023.
IECMS is a system where court cases are done virtually with lawyers sitting in their offices and witnesses being reached from their respective places. Lawyers said because of Zimbabwe’s poor internet network the system is a nightmare.
Lawyers are complaining that it is taking days to file court applications online because of poor network while trials are discontinued because of erratic network and load shedding.
