MASVINGO – A Mucheke woman bathing using candle light at around 5am recently, was lucky to escape rape at the hands of an intruder who sneaked in when she least expected.
The woman from Mucheke B who was preparing to go to work initially thought it was her husband who as usual had joined her for a cold shower. She was jolted back by the clothes he was wearing which made the intruder look like a vagabond.
“When he entered I thought it was my husband who had come to join me in the bath,” said the complainant.
The Mirror also attended the court session.
Leiman Phiri then produced a knife, according to statements made in the court and ordered the complainant to keep quiet. However, the complainant screamed and the husband and people in the neighbourhood rushed out.
Phiri then stormed out of the house and ran away and neighbours ganged up and apprehended him before delivering him to the Police.
The incident happened on February 3, 2022.
Phiri said the case was fabricated. He said he was going through his daily routine of collecting empty plastic bottles for recycling when the incident happened.
Magistrate Grace Tupiri postponed the case to March 3, 2022, for continuation of trial.
