HARARE AGRIC SHOW -India-based Ganpat University (GUNI) is one of several foreign higher learning institutions exhibiting at the ongoing Zimbabwe Agricultural Show (ZAS).
The six-day long show began yesterday under the theme; Sustained Growth: Adaptation. Productivity. Linkages.
GUNI Senior Manager James Martin told The Mirror this is his university’s first exhibition at ZAS.
He said their exhibition is premised on raising awareness of their existence. He said they hope to continue exhibiting in future shows.
Martin also said they hope to establish at least two campuses in Africa.
“We have chosen to exhibit at the Zimbabwean Agric Show because we have over 77 students from Zimbabwe. We intend to have at least 120 to 150 students. We want to raise awareness amongst Zimbabweans of our existence. We also acknowledge the priority that Zimbabwe gives to education and we also value its curriculum.
“India is one of the biggest education hubs and our information technology is very strong across the globe. Our institution offers 50% scholarships with favourable payment plans on tuition fees,” said Martin.
GUNI is situated at Mehsana (Gujarat) in India with an enrolment of 18 000 students of whom 800 are international students.
The university which was established in 1997 has a yearly enrolment of over 8 000 students. It occupies over 400 hectares.
Martin added that Zimbabwe has the highest number of international students followed by Mozambique and Kenya.
He added that Zimbabwean students mainly enrol on programmes such as Engineering, Business Administration, Bachelor of Science, Agriculture, Information Communication Technologies (ICT) and Cyber Security.
“Our university is based on philanthropic ideas, we give back to societies. In one and half years to come we will be expanding to Dubai and putting up a campus there, We already got land in America and we are in talks with the Canadian Government to establish another campus there,” he said.
The other Indian university exhibiting at the ZAS is Parul University.
