Hippo Valley High hockey star Namibia trip in limbo

CHIREDZI-Hippo Valley High School hockey star and Form 3 pupil, Knowledge Mapeto’s dream trip to play Under-16 games in Namibia is in limbo after failing to raise US$1 310 for travel expenses.
He is now appealing for funding from well-wishers.
Mapeto is one of the two players from Masvingo Province selected to represent Zimbabwe in Namibia in July in a 3-day test series against Namibia.
Each player is expected to raise US$1 310 for travelling expenses, accommodation, food and kit for the game. Mapeto is part of the 18-member-Under 16A boys who will represent Zimbabwe in Namibia from July 6-8, 2023.
Knowledge’s father, Dume Mapeto told The Mirror in an exclusive interview that he is failing to raise money for the trip and appealed to well-wishers to help his son fulfil his dream.
“I am happy that my son has been selected to represent Zimbabwe, but I am failing to raise money for the trip. I plead with well-wishers to come forward and rescue the boy,” said Dume.
Meanwhile, the Hockey Association of Zimbabwe has come up with sponsor a player and support a team campaign calling for individuals to support the hockey players.
A total of 72 hockey players (36 boys and girls Under 16 A and 36 boys and girls Under 18 A) will represent Zimbabwe in the upcoming Test Series in Zambia to be held from July 6-8, 2023
