High Court denies ‘ill’ Kurauone bail

MASVINGO –MDC youth assembly Organizing Secretary and Masvingo Ward 4 councilor, Godfrey Kurauone has been denied bail by Justice Neville Wamambo at Masvingo High Court.

Kurauone is allegedly battling ill health and was not present in court.

Kurauone is accused of circulating a video urging people to participate in the July 31 demonstration and blocking off 500m of road with stones at Gaths Mine around 5am on July 31.

Justice Wamambo denied Kurauone bail after concluding that the offences are all politically motivated.
Kurauone is allegedly seen in the video with several men and women singing
“Ichava nhoroondo kana tatenderwa nababa kubvisa Mnangagwa ichava nhorondo.

Kurauone is currently on remand for undermining President Mnangagwa and Wamambo concluded that he may commit similar offences if granted bail.

“The Magistrate did not misdirect herself when she denied appellant (Kurauone) bail because the offences are of a similar nature and the prison term attracted by contravening Section 38C is not less than 10 years.
“In the first matter, I granted him bail because the offence attracted a sentence no more than a year in prison,” said Wamambo.

“The trial date for the case has not been set and no communication has been made to that effect,” said Kurauone’s lawyer, Martin Mureri of Matutu Mureri Legal Practitioners. https://masvingomirror.com
