CHIKOMBA- Heavy rains that hit hard in some parts of Midlands have plunged Chivhu into darkness for almost a week as ZETDC struggles to repair fallen pylons.

ZETDC has so far issued three notices blaming heavy rains for the longevity of dark spells that have hit Chivhu and Mvuma.

Chivhu community has been forced to go for almost a week without running water as ZINWA does not have a power substitute to pump water in the event of power cuts.

Another major concern is also at Chivhu General Hospital which doesn’t have power substitution and depends on electricity only. The hospital’s solar system only supplies lights which makes the situation at the mortuary deplorable. Patients are being transferred to Harare for scans and operations.

Chivhu Business Community Chairman Maxwell Makurumure could not be reached for a comment as his phone was not reachable.

“The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) would like to apologize to its valued customers in the Southern Region for a power outage due to faults that occurred on the feeders supplying them.

“We are experiencing a high number of faults due to unfavorable weather conditions. Our teams are working round the clock to ensure full restoration of service in affected areas,” read the notice,” reads the notice.

Business is grossly affected in Chivhu especially for those who run butcheries.

Other areas that have reportedly been affected by the faults are Mvuma and Gutu.
