CHIMANIMANI – Heavy machinery and a supplementary budget of RTGS$ 55million is needed if Chimanimani Rural District Council (RDC) is to adequately rehabilitate some roads that were damaged by Cyclone Idai.
Chimanimani RDC engineer Hatidani Takabvirwa said they have received a total of $66 million under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Program (ERRP) but that funding left out four major roads and these are Oral Krantz, Coffee, Orange Groove and Outward Bound.
Takabvirwa said the roads were assessed and they require $55 million for rehabilitation.
“The four roads need complete rehabilitation and resurfacing because they are in bad state. There are no longer repairable,” he said.
He said council roads only received $100 000 for rehabilitation.
“These roads are extensively damaged and they need heavy machinery for them to be trafficable again. Our budget is not enough. We were hoping to get a supplementary budget to attend to the roads but we didn’t get anything
“We are happy with ERRP, it helped us address damages from last year’s heavy rains,” he said.
