Heavy clampdown as 40 000 turn up for Chamisa rally

Masvingo – About 40 000 people turned up for the CCC rally held at Mucheke Stadium this afternoon despite heavy Police presence and a tight clampdown on all roads leading into Masvingo.

Party supporters driving into town from the Province’s various districts told The Mirror that they encountered about five roadblocks before they entered the city and two more in the city before they got to the Stadium.

All vehicles with more than three passengers were either turned back as they entered the city or impounded for not being roadworthy and taken to Zimuto Police Camp. Passengers had to make the last 5km to the Stadium on foot.

Efforts to get a comment from Police spokesperson Kudakwashe Dewa were futile.

CCC interim organising secretary, Amos Chibaya, condemned the clampdown but absolved Police on the matter. He said CCC has no problems with the Police because it ‘is Zanu PF that is getting afraid’ and directing the Police.

“We have no problems with the Police because we know that they are merely getting direction from Zanu PF. Zanu PF is running scared hence they stopped our rally in Chipinge that was supposed to take place yesterday,” said Chibaya.

“We were dropped off at Zimuto Camp in Masvingo, and we walked the remaining 5km to the Mucheke stadium. We encountered several roadblocks on our way from Gutu to Masvingo,” said Eugene Chimuti from Gutu.https://masvingomirror.com/
