Harvard student crowned Miss Gweru

GWERU – A Harvard College student, Gugulethu Diana Moyo (19), has been crowned Miss Gweru 2023. Gugulethu received a tuition voucher from River Valley Properties, US$500 from Glow Petroleum and an evening gown from Mahein Glam Hair Produce Wig.
She shrugged off competition from 15 models at Milan Restaurant on Saturday night to win the prestigious title.
The outgoing queen is Lisa Kobekile. She attended the contest and handed over the crown to Moyo.
Maxine Rejoice Tasara was crowned first princess and received US$300 and 30 driving lessons from MidDrive Driving School while Chantel Kanyoka was adjudged second princess and received US$200 and 30 driving lessons from MidDrive Driving School.
All contestants received bath toiletries from OK Mart.
Gugulethu told The Mirror that she is a first-time model. She also said that she would use her status to improve the life of a girl child in the Midlands Capital.
“I am happy to be crowned Miss Gweru 2023. It means a lot to me. I have been waiting for this moment for so long.
“I would like to thank all the people who supported me. I have to give back to the community. I will donate food hampers to Mudavanhu Children’s Home in Mkoba 11,” she said.
Shamilla Msipa was crowned Miss Talent, while Patrice Makanaka Nyika was crowned Miss Personality. Natasha Malowe (17), a Thornhill High pupil won the best project. Nomathandazo Dube was adjudged a supermodel.
Miss Gweru Founder Koslek Mavis organised the pageant. The contestants’ points were verified by Avance Business Consultancy.
Mavis applauded the Gweru community for making the pageant a success.
“Every year, I host Miss Gweru because this is where Gweru gets contenders forwarded into national pageants, hence moving forward into International. This allows Gweru or Midlands Province to be represented by these young ladies,” she said.

Award-winning musician Trevor Dongo provided the entertainment.
