Harare teams dominate Masvingo handball tourney

MASVINGO-Ajax handball club and Manyame Falcons from Harare won the men’s and women’s Masvingo Open Season Handball tournament held at Masvingo Poly last week.
Ajax received 17 gold medals and a trophy for coming first. Manyame Falcons came second and received 17 silver medals. Harare City came third and received 17 bronze medals. Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) from Masvingo was number four.
In the ladies’ category, Manyame Sparrows came first and received 17 gold medals and a trophy, with Harare City coming second and receiving 17 silver medals. Bulawayo Handball Club came third and walked away with 17 bronze medals. Hooks Handball Club came fourth.
Masvingo Handball Board Provincial Chairperson Hatifitose Chirikure confirmed the development to The Mirror.
He also said they launched handball at Junior High School after the tournament.
Teams that participated were drawn from the ten provinces and included high schools, colleges, universities, and corporate clubs.
Some of the teams that participated include GZU, Masvingo Polytechnic, Chibi High School, Midland States University, Harare City, Bulawayo Polytechnic, Black Rhinos handball club, Bulawayo handball club, Chidyamakono High School, All Races Tribe, Hooks handball club, Mutambara handball club, Manyame Falcons, Tigers handball club Hard shots handball club and Ajax handball club.
“The teams played exceptionally well at the tournament. We extend our gratitude to GZU for representing Masvingo Province well. I am proud to announce that Junior High School students will participate and showcase their talent at the next open-season tournament,” added Chirikure.
