Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) will be hosting a Virtual International Conference on COVID-19 with the theme “Unpacking the Science, Economics and Politics of COVID-19”. This conference will be held from 29-30 July 2021.
The conference, which will be centered on COVID-19 pandemic in the country and Southern Africa, will be held under the auspices of WaterNet, a regional and SADC-wide water body in partnership with technical partners, Econet Wireless and the Water Research Commission of South Africa.
Keynote speakers in the areas of epidemiology, microbiology, virology, economics, tourism, agriculture and mathematical modelling among other disciplines have already been secured. Both local and international researchers and presenters have already started responding to a call for papers for presentation at the conference.
The chairperson of the organizing committee at GZU, Dr Isaac Nyambiya, said that along with hosting the conference, a SADC wide documentary will be streamed live to presenters. The broader focus of the documentary is tracking the lived experiences, adaptive and innovative strategies and re-imagination of the future by individuals, groups and communities around the SADC region as they deal with a pandemic.
