GWERU – Gweru City Council is holding mayoral elections tomorrow to replace Josiah Makombe who was recently recalled by the Douglas Mwonzora led MDCT.
Former mayor Hamutendi Kombayi, Ward 18 Councillor John Manyundwa and Ward 9 Councillor Edson Kurebgaseka are vying for the post.
Acting Mayor, Cleopas Shiri confirmed the elections in an interview with The Mirror.
A source at Townhouse hinted that Makombe may file an interdict to stop the elections since he is challenging his withdrawal at the High Court in Bulawayo.
“The recalled Makombe has a Germany never surrender attitude and what should be noted is that he is a fighter.
“Let’s wait until the end of the day and see if there are no new developments,” said the source.
Makombe could not be reached for a comment as his mobile phone was not reachable.
