“This Cheer Fund is done to help the vulnerable members of the community. This year, we are targeting to raise goods worth US$50,000. Proceeds of the donations are intended to help in different aspects of their lives, such as bursaries and day-to-day needs.
“As the Mayor of Gweru, I kindly make this plea to all of you honourable guests, to help through cash or kind so that we can assist the underprivileged members of society,” he said.
Some fundraising activities include a golf tournament set for December 2, 2023, followed by a fundraising dinner scheduled for December 8 at Fairmile, a Regency Group Hotel in Gweru. A marathon will take place on December 10.
The Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund is held annually. The targeted beneficiaries include the Jairos Jiri Naran Centre, Mudavanhu Foster Home and others.
