Gweru Diocese Catholic Bishop dies

GWERU – Gweru Diocese Bishop Emeritus Martin Munyanyi has died. He died on Sunday morning.
He was 66.
The prominent Roman Catholic cleric collapsed and died at his house in Shurugwi.
Gweru Diocese Vicar-General Reverend Father Simon Mavhiya confirmed the tragic loss to the mirror.
“I can confirm that Bishop Emeritus Munyanyi of Gweru Diocese collapsed and died at his house in Shurugwi. Burial arrangements will be announced in due course,” he said.
The late Munyanyi was born on January 3, 1956 in Bikita.
He attended primary education at Beardmore Mine Primary School before proceeding to Silveira Mission for his secondary education.
He studied for priesthood at Chishawasha and was ordained a priest on September 3, 1983.
He was appointed Bishop of Gweru Diocese in May 2006 by Pope Benedict XVI after the death of Bishop Xavier Mugadzi who died on February 6, 2004.
