GWERU – Gweru Magistrate, Progress Murandu, yesterday slapped MDC-T Gweru urban Ward 16 councillor Tawanda Magidi with a six-month-jail-term for assaulting and seriously injuring his wife.
Magidi was charged with physical abuse as defined in section 3(1) (a) as read in Section 4(1) of the Domestic Violence Act Chapter 5:16 for fracturing Vongai Muchaneta’s back with a garden pick handle. He accused her of failing to cook tasty meals.

Muchaneta fled Gweru after the attack to her parents’ homestead in Bikita, where she received medical attention at Silveira Mission Hospital.
The incident happened on December 8, 2021, at around 9 pm in Mkoba.
The court heard that Magidi returned home from work around 9 pm and gave Muchaneta some meat to cook. Magidi then allegedly accused Muchaneta of failing to cook tasty meals, and an argument arose.

The councillor then slapped his wife on the face before he took a pick handle and struck her on the back several times.
Muchaneta spent the night at home but ran away in the morning and went to her parents in Bikita. She was taken to Silveira Mission Hospital, where Dr Blessing Munyaviri concluded that she had suffered a fractured backbone.
Health officials at the hospital advised her to make a Police report which led to the arrest of Magidi.
Margaret Mukucha prosecuted.  https://masvingomirror.com
