GWANDA –Two suspects were arrested by Police on Thursday last week, on their way to Bulawayo to sell their loot after they stole overhead copper cables valued at US$2 000 from TelOne in Gwanda.
Acting Criminal Investigations Department (CID) provincial spokesperson, Detective Assistant Inspector Rachel Muteweri said that Johan Ndlovu (37) andBrighton Sibanda (20) were arrested at a bus terminus in Gwanda and were taken to Gwanda Police Station for further investigations.
The two face a 10-year-jail term each if they are convicted by the courts.
The 200-meter cables that the duo was found with was allegedly stolen from one of TelOne facilities on Thursday and the CID arrested the duo on the same day after receiving a tip-off.
Police, however, suspect that Ndlovu and Sibanda were involved in a spate of crimes to do with copper theft.
Muteweri expressed Police appreciation of the members of the public for supplying credible information that led to the arrest of the two.
The duo is charged with Contravening Section 89(1)(a) of the Postal and Communication Act Chapter 12:05; Willful Damage to or Interference with Telecommunication lines.
