GUTU – Magistrate Mandlenkosi Ndlovu has postponed the trial of CCC activist Ngavaite Mutare on assault charges to January 26 when he appeared at the Gutu Courts on Tuesday.
Ngavaite of Gutu North is accused of assaulting his uncle Tawanda Mutare, the Zanu PF chairman for Ward 4 Nyazvidzi who stays at the same farm with him.
Tawanda brought about 10 witnesses to court on Tuesday while Ngavaite who is represented by his lawyer, Martin Mureri of Matutu Mureri Legal Practitiners was all by himself.
Ngavaite is alleged to have assaulted his uncle after the later allegedly tormented his wife for receiving 47 chicks for self-help project from another Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) woman.
The Police report says that the chicks were received from Esther Madziva, another CCC activist.
A state outline says after receiving the chicks, Tawanda tormented Ngavaite’s wife demanding that she return the chicks. He also called for a kangaroo court that involved Zanu PF village structures but those attending the court condemned him for disempowering a poor woman.
When Ngavaite who was not around came back he allegedly confronted Tawanda for troubling his wife in his absence. A disagreement arose and it is alleged that Ngavaite assaulted the Zanu PF chairman.
A truckload of policemen went to the farm on three different occasions but could not find Ngavaite until he surrendered himself to the Police in the company of his lawyer.
